5-Day Beijing Itinerary
A slower Beijing plan for travelers who want museums, art, parks, hutongs, and the Great Wall without rushing.
Day 1: Forbidden City & Central Beijing
Reserve the Forbidden City and keep the day focused. This is the day that sets the tone for the whole trip, so do not fill every gap with another major sight.
- Forbidden City in the morning, with extra time for the central halls and side courtyards.
- Jingshan Park panorama after the palace visit.
- Hutong dinner or Peking duck, depending on how tired everyone is.
Day 2: Great Wall
Pick one Wall section and give it a full day.
- Badaling for easy access or Mutianyu for scenery.
- Return to the city by late afternoon.
- Keep dinner simple near your hotel.
Day 3: Temple of Heaven & National Museum
Combine ritual architecture with museum context. This pairing works because Temple of Heaven gives you open-air rhythm, while the National Museum gives you historical context without needing to run across the city.
- Temple of Heaven early, before the park gets busy.
- National Museum if reserved; skip it if your group is already museumed-out.
- Tiananmen Square area with security time built in.
Day 4: Summer Palace & Beijing Zoo — The Slowdown Day
By Day 4, you'll be tired — that's normal. This is the day to slow down. Use Haidian District efficiently without packing every minute.
- Summer Palace in the morning.
- Lunch nearby.
- Beijing Zoo or Panda House if time allows.
Day 5: 798 Art Zone & Olympic Park
End with contemporary Beijing. This day is useful because it gives the trip a modern ending instead of making the final impression only imperial monuments and crowded lanes.
- 798 galleries in the morning, when the district is quieter.
- Olympic Park in the evening for an easy walk and skyline atmosphere.
- Optional CBD night view only if energy remains; do not force it after a long day.
How to Use This Itinerary
These routes are designed to reduce backtracking and avoid overpacking each day. In Beijing, the biggest time savers are advance booking, early starts, and choosing the right Great Wall section for your energy level. The extra two days are not just bonus sights; they give you room for weather, queues, rest, and the small discoveries that make Beijing memorable.
