Badaling is the classic restored Great Wall section near Beijing. It is the easiest choice for many first-time visitors because it has clear official information, strong transport links, and extensive visitor facilities.

Planning Tips
- Consider booking online before peak-season weekends or holidays to reduce queue time.
- Arrive before 8:00 AM in peak season to beat the tour-bus crowds.
- Use the north or south routes depending on your energy; the Wall involves steep steps.
- Avoid weekends and National Day holiday if possible.
- Check night-tour dates separately because they are seasonal.
From Our Visit
During our June 2026 visit, we arrived at the Badaling parking area at 7:30 AM and found the cable car queue manageable — about a 10-minute wait. By 9:30 AM, the north-section tower platforms were crowded with tour groups, and the south route was noticeably more relaxed. We recommend taking the south route first if you are looking for quieter photo opportunities. The wall surface is uneven and steep in places; proper walking shoes are essential. We also noticed that the information boards at the entrance are in Chinese only, so downloading the Badaling official mini-program in advance for English audio guidance is a worthwhile preparation step.
